Introduction to Nurturing By Nature’s Natural Dog Treats

A Review of Our Top Selling Natural Dog Treats

Our co-founder Emma recently reviewed three of our top-selling natural dog treats during her regular livestream video on our YouTube channel. Below is a recap of the products featured and the benefits of feeding these to your pets.

Variety is the spice of life in pet treats.

Featuring three different protein sources—beef, rabbit, and fish—our treats cater to a range of dietary needs and preferences, supporting your pet's health throughout the week. It's beneficial to vary the treats you give, as each type brings different nutritional benefits.

Pet treat samples available in store

You can always try any of these treats in one of our 4 shops in Dorset. if you happen to call into one of our shops, they will always have packets of these open, so if you would like to try some or you're not sure if your pet would like it, we're happy to give you a few pieces to try and take home for them or even bring your pet into the shop.

Beef Lung Cubes: A low Fat High Protein Pet Treat

What we like to choose at Nurturing by Nature is a single protein treat. We don't add anything into the treats that we sell, and we like things to be as natural as possible and what's nice about these is that you can see exactly what you're getting.

A lot of people might know these as beef jerky. They are already cut up for you and you get 100 grams in a packet. What's nice about this product, although it's beef, is that it is low in fat. So, it is a treat that can be given regularly. It doesn't smell offensive and comes in a resealable packet.

With 100 grams in a packet these which should last absolutely ages. What's great about these as well is you can probably make them go a lot further. You could probably get quite a few treats out of one cube. Do a little experiment and see what you can do. They smell like beef and don't smell too offensive, maybe slightly bovrilly. So, if you are someone who doesn't like the smell of the treats and can deal with bovril, this would be a good option for you. And they're easy to break up.   Dogs really like these, even cats will eat these. The composition of this product is 100% beef, so there's nothing else mixed into it, no grain or added ingredients. it's literally a dried meat product with 9% moisture, and fat content is 5%, which is a low percentage of fat if you're looking for a low-fat, tasty treat for your dog or even your cat, beef lung cubes would be a good option for you. They are high in protein, most of the dried treats and natural treats will be because you're looking at a product which is all the meat, and then they just condense it down by drying it, removing most of the moisture from that product, so you are going to be condensing it so it's a high protein treat. There are other treats out there that are natural that are lower in protein, so if you are thinking about the protein side of things, these are at 70% protein, so you can find that to be quite high, but it makes perfect sense when you think about it because natural treats are going to be concentrated, you'd want them to have some sort of protein level in there. They also contain 15% Ash and 1% Fibre, so they're easy for pets to digest.

We would recommend putting them in a little bag or one of those dog walking pouches, these are nice and dry so that you can take them on dog walks out in your pocket, you can use these also in a treat ball or stuff it into part of a Kong toy or wedge it into the side of those spiky little balls, this would also work.

Dried Rabbit Ears: Natural and Digestive

Again a single protein source, pets absolutely love these. What's nice about these is you can see exactly what you're getting, these are dried rabbit's ears and they have got fur on them, fur isn't bad for dogs, pets can use it to aid digestion, it can aid bringing any worms through because the hair in it works like a little bit of a brush as it comes through and passes through their system, so most dogs will handle these without too much trouble.  They are hard but not rock solid so they will help to clean their teeth.

We stock these rabbit ears in 100-gram packets which have a protein content value of 56.5% and fat 33.4% which is quite a lot higher than the beef lung cubes but that would make sense because of the skin, there's a lot of oil in the skin. They also contain Crude Ash at 3% and Crude Fibre at 1%.

Again, these come in a sealed bag, and don’t really smell, maybe slightly meaty but they're not offensive. They are quite crunchy and small dogs like these as well because they can easily break them up. the harder part of the ear is good for helping to clean your pet's teeth and that's just part of the skin with the fur on and that's like the ear canal area as it attaches to the head, it may sound horrible, but we do sell absolutely loads of these and dogs do love them.

Dried Sprats: Omega-3 Rich Treats for Pets

We talk about these all the time because they are fantastic, they are little dried fish that and you can break them. With 150 grams in our bags, I think our bag is one of the best value on the market. You get quite a few fish in a bag. Now these do smell like fish because they are fish and it's nice to know that’s what you're feeding your pet and what you're buying is what you're getting. The sprats are a whole fish which hasn't been gutted because they're so small, and they are the bottom of the food chain they're good and high in omega-3 which is great for your pets so if you can't stomach feeding raw sprats you could feed the dry ones and pets seem to love them. We used to take them to shows or in the store and quite often the dogs will either love them eat them straight away or they'll roll in them but they still eat them, most dogs like them.

If you're doing lots of walking or treating if you're doing lots of training at the moment something like this is a good natural treat, you can take them out and put them into like a lock tight box or  another sealed bag or something along those lines but to be honest they don't tend to last that long as dogs love them and cats will eat these as well

Let’s explore the analytical constituents of the sprats, 44% protein so that's in between the beef lung cubes and the rabbit ears and we've got 26% of which is surprising because they are fish but when they have been condensed like this and all the moisture has been removed, the protein levels are higher because the meat is more concentrated.

These are a great treat and I wouldn't worry too much about the fat with these as long as you know what you're giving your dog and again this is a great topper for a meal so if you want to add these into a meal to give them a bit extra few extra vitamins and minerals and some extra omega oils this is a great thing you can put in instead of feeding raw fish
