As trusted experts in raw pet food and pet well-being, we're here to provide you with some trusted advice, advice based upon many years of experience. How to make this Guy Fawkes Night & the festival of Diwali a more comfortable experience for your four legged family members.
First things first: let's discuss the role of a consistent routine in your pet's life. It's not just us humans who flourish with a predictable schedule; our pets do too. As many raw feeding pet owners know, if you're feeding your pet a raw diet, it does require some element of planning/timing to ensure your pet’s meal is removed from the freezer in-time to defrost.
Security and Comfort
Imagine not knowing when your next meal will be; it's unsettling, isn't it? Our dogs and cats feel the same way. In fact it is their natural behaviour, in the wild they wouldn’t know when their next meal is coming or even if they would be successful on their next hunt. Now days largely domesticated pet’s fit into our daily habits & behaviours, keeping consistent times for feeding, walks, and bedtime. This gives them a reassuring sense of routine, reducing anxiety, stress levels & takes one worry of of their mind.
Behavioural Expectations
When pets know what to expect and when, problematic behaviours like destructive chewing or unnecessary barking are less likely to occur, they are more settled. This is particularly important during times of potential stress, like the fireworks season. We may too not also understand that it. Is our behaviours that are triggering a change in their behaviour. Our domesticated lives, create learnt behaviour traits in our pet’s. Around know periods of unsettlement such as house moves, holidays, building or fireworks. Understanding that the home environment will become different is key in the planning & preparation. It is such preparation that can support your Pet, by starting to slowly & gradually positively change the daily routines.
Training and Obedience
Training and routine go hand in hand. If there's a steady structure to your pet's day it supports a more consistent environment for them to become accustom too. Many service dogs are often trained to a trigger point, this allows them to know that now it’s time to work. So that no matter how mad the world around them is they have been trained to know that putting the harness on means work. We don’t all work with service dogs but you will find that the more consistent your routine especially during training the easier obedience commands are grasped, making it simpler for you to manage their behaviour.
Better Health
Feeding a consistent variety of Raw pet food and regular exercise help regulate your pet's bodily health naturally. Raw pet food enthusiasts, also understand that a raw pet food diet also you to add further enrichment into your pet’s lives by feeding meals such as a lamb rib or chicken carcass. These meals that they have to think & work about release natural endorphins into their bodies that support an overall better health & encourage your pet to relax. Creating a calmer pet as they have been naturally enriched & de-stressed by their meal, just like exercise does with us humans.
An added benefit of a healthy dog is often fewer trips to the vet. By maintaining a naturally health, varied Raw diet teeth remain clean, muscles are stronger & a healthier weight is easier to maintain.
Less Stress
Many behaviour problems are stress-related. Therefore, maintaining a consistent routine can significantly minimise stress, making it easier to keep your pet calm & relaxed. It is as much about our routine as it is there’s.
Essentially it is about investing time with your pet to understand how they behave & react around different events & circumstances. We do however know through experience that having a consistent routine does support the overall health of your pet. It is not always achievable in our busy lives but it is a factor worth understanding.
Create a Safe Space: Establish a quiet, secure area where your pet can retreat when the noise begins.
Desensitisation: In the weeks leading up to November 5th, try to acclimate your pet to loud noises through desensitisation techniques.
Natural Calmatives: Some pet owners have found success using herbal remedies or pheromone diffusers to create a calming environment.
So, just as a raw diet aligns with your pet's natural needs, keeping a consistent routine and taking extra precautions can help ensure this Guy Fawkes Night is enjoyable for all family members—four-legged ones included. By adopting these strategies, you're not only keeping your pet calm but also maintaining a balanced, secure environment that benefits everyone involved.
